A California-based media production and post-production firm has won the right to build a $250m (£198m) complex on Toronto’s Port Lands.
Plexiglas Studios, which is part of the media company Big 3, has made the announcement after it submitted the winning bid.
The creative studios aim to create content for television, film and games.
The company says it will create 530 jobs in Ontario, on top of 500 already employed in the city.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have won the bid to take our Canadian operation to the next level,” Big 3 co-founder John Fife said.
“There has been an incredible amount of talent brought in by the Big 3 and Canada has been a key part of the company’s success, now it’s time to build on that. We couldn’t be more excited about what lies ahead.”
Mr Fife founded the company along with his brother David in 1995.
The Big 3 said one of its strengths would be “being part of the growing cluster of creative companies in Toronto” but “almost everyone does”.
