‘Insecure’ Season 5: Here are 5 spoilers for ‘The Earth Moves’

(CNN) — “Insecure” is back with its long-awaited fifth season, and there’s a lot at stake.

Showrunner Prentice Penny — a sign of how much of a rodeo the show is at this point — announced earlier this season that they were going to slow down the storytelling.

And so in this episode, called “The Earth Moves,” viewers got to see how the relationship between Issa and Molly (Yvonne Orji) continues to develop in the wake of what transpired between the two women in previous episodes.

Issa’s attentions continue to turn toward Eddie (Gil Clark), who is likely in the process of having a major medical scare.

However, whether or not this will lead to a relationship remains to be seen. Issa’s proximity to Eddie does, however, serve as another example of what will surely become one of the highlights of the season.

As Molly works to find a new acting gig, she feels more and more pressure to make the transition from desk-bound journalist to stand-up comedian — particularly now that Issa has told her that she can.

For Molly, that almost seems as though it would be a new level of emotional exhaustion; it seems every day is a new relationship.

Dolores (Jay Ellis) is still struggling with the decision to get an abortion, and finding it hard to decide which option to take. However, she doesn’t have as much influence in the process.

Dolores’ storyline could not be further from the attention Issa and Molly’s storylines continue to draw.

And it’s not much more than a footnote in what’s unfolding with Larry (Larry Wilmore) and Skylar (Aja Naomi King), who in this episode, host their first stand-up show together.

Though Larry is currently battling a serious mental illness and is something of a foil for Larry and Skylar, the show continues to go full steam ahead with their efforts to get some laughs and help one another cope with the stresses of the job.

And though these two struggle, they do fall in love and raise their family. They’re a strong example of how it’s never too late to learn how to be friends or to be loved.

And now that Larry is sober, he has begun to gently show his support for Skylar as they embark on their new venture.
